What should I wear?
You stay clothed. This isn't spa massage.
Wear something comfortable that you can move in—athletic wear, a t-shirt and joggers, whatever feels easy. If I need to work on an area directly, the minimum is a sports bra and shorts for women, shorts for men.
The work happens through fabric most of the time. If direct skin contact would help in a specific area, I'll ask first.

What is myofascial release? Is it like massage?
It's related, but different.
Most massage focuses on muscles—kneading, stroking, working out tension through movement and pressure. I work on muscles too, but I'm also working on fascia, the connective tissue that wraps and connects everything in your body. Muscle and fascia aren't separate systems—they're interwoven. You can't really address one without the other.
The difference is in how I work. Fascia doesn't respond to fast pressure. You can't force it. So the work is slow. I find a restriction, apply sustained pressure, and wait. Sometimes up to 30 minutes in one spot! The tissue softens on its own timeline, not mine.
It's less about relaxation (though that often happens) and more about creating space where there wasn't any.

Does it hurt?
Sometimes. Not always.
There can be discomfort when we're working with tissue that's been tight for a long time. It shouldn't be sharp or unbearable—if it is, tell me and I'll adjust. Some people describe it as a "good hurt," like something finally letting go.
You might also feel things afterward: soreness, fatigue, sometimes emotions surfacing. That's normal. The body holds more than just tension.

How many sessions will I need?
I can't answer that honestly without working with you first.
Some people feel significant shifts in one or two sessions. Some have patterns that took years to develop and need time to unwind. Chronic pain usually isn't a quick fix—but it also doesn't have to take forever.
After our first session, I'll have a better sense of what we're working with and can give you a clearer picture.

What does a first session look like?
We'll talk first. I want to know what's going on, what you've tried, how long you've been dealing with it.
Once we've talked, you settle onto the table and I get to work finding where the fascial restrictions are. The first session is part assessment, part treatment. I'm listening to your tissue as much as I'm working on it.
90 minutes is best for a first session—it gives us time to not rush.

What conditions do you work with?
Mostly chronic pain that hasn't responded to other treatments:
Back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain
Headaches and migraines
Sciatica
Hip and pelvic pain
Postural issues
Pain after surgery or injury
Fibromyalgia
Jaw tension (TMJ)
The kind of pain where doctors can't find anything "wrong"
